CPAP &  BIPAP Mask is one of the essential parts of CPAP or BIPAP therapy as they are the point of Contact for the Device and user. Masks can Make or break therapy so choose them carefully with your healthcare professional.  BIPAP & CPAP Machines use same type of Masks and they can used interchangeably according to the users preference

A CPAP machine sends a steady flow of pressurized air through a Mask into  your nose and mouth as you sleep. This keeps your airways open and helps you breathe normally.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder where the upper airways gets obstructed and lead to intermittent stopping of breath during sleep. The common treatment for OSA is through a continuous positive airway pressure or CPAP machine. It comprises a CPAP mask which is connected to a hose pipe, which in turn is connected to a small machine that pumps air into the patient’s airway.

There are a wide variety of masks available for CPAP machines that are crafted according to the different facial shapes, needs, and preferences of the users.

Here’s a look at the common types of CPAP masks and when to use them.

Nasal Pillow Masks

These masks—or pillows—fit snugly at the nares and over the nasal passages. They enable patients to sleep in a comfortable position—including sideways. These are usually light, unobtrusive and do not interfere with the line of vision, which allows patients to read or watch TV without any hindrance.

Nasal pillow Mask For CPAP & BIPAP Machine are especially useful for people who feel uneasy wearing a mask that covers most of their faces, as well as for those who wear glasses.

Nasal Pillow masks are also a good option for men with facial hair that interferes with the masks.

Some of the nasal pillow masks available on the market include AirFit P30i which comes with a top-of-the-head tube design that makes it comfortable for unobtrusive sleep.

The AirFitP10 is known to help patients sleep longer by more than 40 minutes per night. BMC P2 is also an excellent economical nasal pillow mask .

Nasal Masks

Nasal mask For CPAP  provide a larger coverage over the nose. This is with a view to supply air with a greater pressure. These masks also have a minimal design like the nasal pillows and provide a clear line of vision for reading, watching TV, or wearing glasses. Nasal masks are recommended for people who have been advised a high air pressure setting. They are also beneficial for people who have a natural tendency to move around during sleep.”

Depending on their comfort, patients can consider BMC P6 Nasal Mask , which is a curved nasal cradle cushion and rests under the nose. The AirFit 30i comes with a top-of-the head tube and a nasal cradle, so patients can sleep in any position. The AirFitN20 comes with numerous comfort features, Like soft cushion & visual freedom.

Full Face Mask

Full face mask for CPAP & BIPAP Machines  are designed to cover the nose and mouth to supply the required air pressure. These masks are useful for people who breathe through their mouths. Also, patients who have nasal obstruction or congestion find these masks useful. Patients who have tried nasal masks and nasal pillows to enable breathing through the nose, without any success, are advised this mask so they can breathe through their mouths.

Patients can consider AirFit F30, which is a small mask and covers less area of the face. The AirTouch F20 has easy-to-use features and can fit almost every face type, and is available in different sizes.

The BMC Mask series features the BMC F5A  which is the lightest full face mask on the market. BMC F2  is a traditional full face mask that gives a clear line of vision. The BMC F1A Multiple  positions on the forehead support to suit individual facial structures.

 Pediatric Masks

Designed for effective treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in children. The Pixi  helps children suffering from sleep-disordered breathing, breathe and sleep better. The other mask available is the Pixi.

If you or a loved one has been advised CPAP therapy, make sure you take time to choose the right mask. The quality and comfort of the mask will help you stay consistent with you CPAP therapy, and experience the benefits.

If you’re still exploring CPAP therapy and whether it’s a good option for you, take the CPAP trial to know for.

While CPAP and BiPAP therapies provide breathing assistance in different ways, it’s helpful to know how the two are similar, especially when it comes to buying the equipment you’ll need for your treatment.

Both CPAP and BiPAP therapies are administered through machines (i.e., CPAP machine or BiPAP machine). However, both types of machines can use CPAP masks.

With numerous types of CPAP masks available, you don’t need to search specifically for a BiPAP mask if you need BiPAP therapy. There is no such thing as a BiPAP mask. The same masks are used for both types of therapy: CPAP and BiPAP.

How to find your CPAP mask size

Method 1: Use a sizing gauge

CPAP mask manufacturers offer sizing gauges, or sizing templates, to help users find their best fitting mask size. They are easy to use and feature detailed instructions so users know they are taking proper measurements.

When used correctly, sizing templates are a reliable way to find your optimal cushion size. A key point to remember is that sizing templates are mask-specific, so make sure you only use the sizing gauge designated for your CPAP mask.

Healthcare professionals use these same sizing gauges when fitting patients with new masks. When fitting a patient with a CPAP mask that is new on the market, Many healthcare workers use mask sizing gauges to help them determine their patient’s ideal cushion size.

As they become more familiar with that particular mask, most clinicians reach a point where they can correctly size a patient for a specific mask just by looking at their face.

How to use a CPAP mask sizing gauge

Before you start measuring your face, make sure you have a means of reading your results from the sizing gauge. Consider having a family member or friend help read your results. If you prefer to handle your mask sizing solo, make sure you’re looking into a mirror when measuring.

Find the sizing gauge for your specific CPAP mask below. We’ve organized our collection of sizing gauges by mask type: nasal mask, nasal pillow mask, and full face mask. Once you locate the appropriate sizing template, click on it to download a printable PDF file.

Print the PDF to scale. Make sure the size is set at 100% before printing.

Check the printed PDF to ensure it is to scale. Most of the sizing templates come with a scale you can measure with a ruler to confirm the PDF size. If the ruler doesn’t match the scale, check your Page Scale in Adobe Acrobat. It should be set to 100% or “Actual Size.”

Follow the instructions on the sizing gauge. For a nasal CPAP mask, measure your nose. For a full face mask, measure both your nose and mouth. If you have someone to help you, hold the template up to your face and have them identify your ideal mask cushion size. If you’re alone, hold the sizing gauge up to your face while looking in a mirror to read your results.

If you find yourself in between sizes or at the edge of a size, opt for the next size up. A larger cushion size usually provides more comfort.
